Rio de Janeiro Airports

Flying into Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro’s two major airports cater to both international and domestic flights. Galeão International Airport (IATA code GIG) and Santos Dumont Airport (IATA code SDU) are the essential airports for getting in and out of the Cidade Marvelosa or, Marvelous city, but they serve slightly different purposes.

Galeão International Airport is the bigger of the two and handles most international flights.  The airport is located approximately 20 kilometers from downtown Rio de Janeiro and is the main hub for international flights arriving into Rio. It’s reasonably well connected to the city centre by buses, taxis, some ride-sharing services and, of course, our superb private airport transfer service.

Santos Dumont Airport is much smaller but more centrally located, but still at least 10kms from the tourist areas of Copacabana, Ipanema etc.

Whether you’re flying internationally into Galeão or catching a domestic flight from Santos Dumont, Rio’s airports make it easy to get to and from our amazing city.  As always, our team at Rio Airport Transfer look forward to welcoming you, whichever airport you arrive at.
