Travel Time From the Airports
Copacabana isn’t too far from the airports, around 24km (about 15 miles), but Rio traffic generally has its own plans. Here are typical journey times to and from Copacabana, but they can vary depending on traffic, weather, events and general Rio unpredictability:
GIG → Copacabana: 50–70 minutes
SDU → Copacabana: 25–35 minutes
Copacabana → GIG: ~90 minutes (especially during busy hours)
Copacabana → SDU: ~45 minutes
Top tip: For return trips back to the airport, always allow at least 90 minutes, especially during rush hour, rainy days, big events or Carnaval. Better to be early and enjoy an airport coffee than late with sweaty palms!
About Copacabana

Copacabana is Rio's most famous beachfront neighbourhood - it's lively, iconic, and always buzzing with energy. Think palm-lined promenades, beach volleyball, fresh juice stands, and that legendary sweep of sand with Sugarloaf in the distance.
It’s brilliant for first-time visitors because everything is on your doorstep: restaurants, shops, supermarkets, beach kiosks and easy transport links to the rest of the city. Day or night, there’s always something happening, whether it’s a sunset walk, live music drifting from a bar, or locals enjoying the beach well into the evening.
If you want classic Rio vibes, sunrise strolls on the promenade, and a location that makes exploring super easy, Copacabana is the perfect base. And yes, you’ll probably start saying “just one more beach walk” every day.

Yes, absolutely. We can provide transfers to and from most locations within Rio de Janeiro.
Ok, so this is an interesting question. Traffic in Rio can be horrific, depending on the day of the week, time of day, weather conditions, security issues etc. Generally, it will take approximately 60 minutes to travel from Galeao International Airport to Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon areas, and up to 75 minutes to Barra da Tijuca.
As with transfers to your accommodation, return transfer times can depend on many factors. We always advise allowing 90 minutes for the return transfer from Copacabana, Leblon, Ipanema back to Galeao International Airport. This allows for unexpected delays. Please keep in mind that we can’t predict if there will be delays, or how long they will be.
No problem. If you can’t find the destination on our booking for, contact us and we’ll be happy to provide a quote.
That’s not a problem. We provide free cancellation, with a full refund, up to 12 hours prior to your scheduled pickup time. Just contact us and let us know.
